8/30: DJ Jason Provost: Tribute to New Orleans

Join us tonight, August 30th for Swing Dance Sunday at The Volstead in Downtown Jacksonville.

DJ Jason Provost will be spinning his favorite dance tunes to keep you swinging. For over a year, Jason has been bringing swing and jazz from the original swing era to Jacksonville's dance scene. His tastes run from the hot charts of the 1930s to jump blues to soul and early rock 'n roll.

In honor of the great city of New Orleans and the comeback it has made (and is still making) from Hurrican Katrina, Jason will be playing music from New Orleans musicians. You'll hear Louis Armstrong, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Allen Toussaint,  Kermit Ruffins, Irma Thomas and more!

8/23: DJ Sean Hendrix

Join us this Sunday, August 23rd for Swing Dance Sunday at The Volstead in Downtown Jacksonville.

We've got DJ Sean Hendrix spinning his favorite dance tunes to keep you swinging. Sean – if you don't already know this — is Jacksonville's most popular dancer. So, not only does he play some great tunes, but he can also cut a rug with the best of them. Ladies, don't be afraid to ask him for a dance.

Swing Dance Sunday 8/16: Tribute to Motown

We continue our Swing Dance Sunday theme nights with our Tribute to Motown on Sunday, August 16th. Motown (a combination of motor and town) is the pioneering American record company that was invented in 1961 in Detroit, Michigan. Out of this blend of pop and soul came a unique sound, and some truly unique musicians and songs.

Swing Dance Sunday 8/9: Ella Fitzgerald Night

Join us for Swing Dance Sunday at The Volstead on August 9th, as we'll be paying tribute the "The First Lady of Song" -- Ella Fitzgerald!

Ella was noted for her hard-swinging tone, diction, phrasing, and "horn-like" improvisation. Known for her scat singing, Ella is a favorite for many dancers. You're not going to want to miss out!

We've launched this site as a way to promote Swing Dance Sunday -- Jacksonville's only weekly Lindy Hop and East Coast Swing dance night.

Swing Dance Sunday happens at The Volstead every Sunday night from 7-11PM for swing dance fun and luscious libations! A free beginner swing dance lesson by The Dance Shack is offered from 7-8PM.
