10/25: DJ Ryan - Are You Reddy To Swing?

That header's not a typo. For this week's Swing Dance Sunday DJ, we've got Ryan Reddy spinning his favorite tunes for your dance floor enjoyment! Ryan has been a swing dancer for 12 years in scenes across Texas, D.C.,  South Carolina, and now Jacksonville, Florida. From these multiple dance scenes, he has performed numerous swing styles and learned from many of the great dancers from around the world. Ryan is also one of the wonderful organizers of our very own First Coast Blues & Lindy Society (BLS).

If you don't already know this, First Coast BLS' mission is to preserve and advance the American art forms of Swing Dance & Blues Dance in Jacksonville, St. Augustine, & Northeastern Florida. First Coast BLS was founded in 2013 to serve Northeast Florida by promoting and providing swing dance & blues dance lessons, organizing events, and fostering relationships in the swing dance community. They operate as a non-profit organization and are open to people from all backgrounds.

They run a dance on the first Saturday of every month. So if you're looking for more places to swing dance, check out their events calendar!

10/4: DJ Jason - New School Swing!

So much about swing dancing is rooted in the old school music from the 30's, 40's and 50's. During any visit to Swing Dance Sunday, you're bound to hear classic big band swing, traditional jazz, early rock n' roll and rhythm & blues. You'll always hear that stuff!

But this week we're going to put a little focus on new school swing! Along with the familiar sounds of the swing era, DJ Jason Provost will be playing tracks from the neo-swing revival of the late 90's to the "back-to-basics" sound of today's swing band.

Who fits into this genre? Indigo Swing, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Postmodern Jukebox, Leon Bridges, Boilermaker Jazz Band, Lavay Smith, Mora's Modern Rhythmists and more! Check out some of these bands below!

9:27: DJ Jason - A Tribute to.....The Volstead!

If you haven't already heard, The Volstead recently was named Jacksonville's Best Craft Cocktail Spot in the "Best of Jax" edition of Folio Magazine. It beat out some fantastic bars. The wonderful folks who run The Volstead are humbled by the victory, as it was the readers who voted them in.

But it's no small feat with all the bars in this town to pull in such an award. So to honor the bar's recent victory (and them being gracious hosts to Swing Dance Sunday), DJ Jason Provost will be playing songs about bars, booze, beverages, cocktails, concoctions, and libations. We encourage you to come out and pay tribute!

And don't forget to pay it forward! The Volstead never charges a cover for Swing Dance Sunday, and they ain't about to start. Why not purchase one of their amazing cocktails to show your support?

9/20: DJ Tony - Good Rockin' Tonight

Bill Haley, Little Richard, Wynonie Harris, Buddy Holly, Big Joe Turner, Elvis Presley.

These are some of the great artists you'll be hearing tonight at Swing Dance Sunday at The Volstead in Downtown Jacksonville. Tonight's theme has been dubbed "Good Rockin' Tonight", and that pretty much sums it up.

Rock n' Roll!

This is right in DJ Tony D's wheelhouse. He'll be playing the best in early rock n' roll, as well as traditional swing, classic R&B and more. It's the perfect stuff for rug cuttin'!

Don't worry if it's your first time swing dancing. Our resident instructor — Naga from The Dance Shack — will be teaching a beginner east coast swing lesson starting at 7PM. The dance floor opens up after the lesson around 8PM. As always, there is no cover to enter! Swing Dance Sunday is 21+.

9/13: DJs Tony & Jason - Football is Back!

Join us Sunday, 9/13 as we'll be paying tribute to  "America's Game" at Swing Dance Sunday at The Volstead in the heart of Downtown Jacksonville! We'll either be celebrating a Jaguars victory in style, or drinking and dancing our sorrows away. Either way, it's sure to be a great time!

DJs Jason Provost and Tony DeSimone will be spinning their favorite swing, rock n' roll and classic soul songs that will somehow tie into football and the team's fortunes -- or misfortunes. Don't ask us how they're going to do that, but they seem pretty confident.
